Hello

OK, so what is this clown residency all about?

The Clown Residency is for people interested in developing their clown skills through a week of all-day workshops. We practice improvisation, movement, the unicycle, and being in a marching band.

The Schedule

Monday:

  • Arrival--you may be flying into the airport in Atlanta and then taking a shuttle to Athens.

  • Getting settled in. I show you around. My house is has two sides. I live on one side and the residents can stay in the other. There's a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and two empty rooms to make a nest for yourself.

  • I'll explain the rules, like it is a vegan kitchen so everyone can eat the same thing...

  • Each training session will be different depending on how many people are in it. If there are only 1-2 participants, then we will make a short documentary of the week (that will give us an audience). If there are 3-4, then we will focus on skills, such as the unicycle and musical instruments. If there are 5-10, we will do more with physical theater games and improvisation. So as we settle in, the experience will vary based on the group size.

Tuesday:

  • Mornings are quiet. You can get up when you want or sleep in. The rule is no talking until noon. You can make  your own breakfast, meditate, journal, go out running.

  • Noon is lunch. Or maybe that is your breakfast. Then we will start in on our practices. The plan is to take the Magic Bus to various locations around Athens. I know the town well. There are inside spots for movement and improv. There are outside zones for horn playing and unicycle practice. This goes on until dinner.

  • 6:30 pm is the Happy Hermit Honking Jam.

  • 8:00 is dessert and the evening meditation and check in. We'll see how the day went and talk about it.

Wednesday:

  • Most days are like Tuesday, but Wednesday is a strange day because I have my son later on.

  • 10:00 am we begin. Lunch is a bit before noon. Then more practices.

  • 2:00-4:30 pm is peer-led exercises. I'll provide a template.

  • Dinner is early.

  • 5:30-6:30 West African Drumming.

  • 7:00 Watch Gorgeous George's Improv League.

  • 9:30 we eat dessert and check in.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday:

  • These days are like Tuesday. The evenings will differ based on the group size and what all is going on around town.

Sunday:

  • This is our last full day together so we should have a show. Is the group is 1-2 people, then this is a day to edit our video footage and make a youtube video. If 3-4 then we can find a way to show off in the streets. If 5-10 we can book a venue and invite an audience.

Monday:

  • Departure--parting is such sweet sorrow. But you can come back some other week.
